Genomic Insights into Multidrug and Extensively Drug-Resistant Klebsiella Pneumoniae from Bloodstream Infections at Three Zambian tertiary Hospitals
(Frontiers Media SA, 2026-10-09) Kamboyi K Harvey , Bumbangi Flavien Nsoni, Machila Nchimunya,
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a leading cause of hospital-associated infections and a major contributor to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) worldwide. Despite its importance and prioritization in Zambia’s National Action Plan on AMR, genomic surveillance information in sub-Saharan Africa remains limited. This study investigated the population structure, determinants of AMR, and plasmid diversity of K. pneumoniae isolates from three tertiary hospitals in Zambia.

Dimethyl Fumarate Attenuates Cadmium‑induced Neurobehavioural Deficits, NF‑κB/NLRP3‑associated Neuroinflammation and Synaptic Protein Alterations in Rats
(Springer-Verlag GmbH, 2026-09-30) Mesole Samuel Bolaji, Okpanachi Omachonu Alfred,Chinyama Jonathan, Kombe Mwitwa, Oria Sunday Oadmene, Kaunda Tuesday
Cadmium (Cd) exposure is associated with cognitive dysfunction, neuroinflammation and synaptic impairment. This study evaluated whether dimethyl fumarate (DMF) attenuates CdCl₂-induced neurotoxicity in rats and whether protection is associated with reduced NF-κB/NLRP3-associated inflammatory signalling and preservation of synaptic proteins. Male Wistar rats received control, CdCl₂ (5 mg/kg/day), DMF (25 mg/kg/day) or CdCl₂ + DMF treatment orally for 30 days (n = 8/group). CdCl₂ impaired spatial learning, recognition memory, spontaneous alternation and exploratory activity; increased TNF-α,IL-1β and IL-6; enhanced NF-κB p65 expression/phosphorylation and NLRP3, ASC and cleaved caspase-1 and reduced BDNF, synaptophysin, PSD-95 and NMDAR subunits in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. DMF significantly attenuated these behavioural and molecular alterations. These findings indicate that DMF reduces CdCl₂-induced neurobehavioural and molecular toxicity in association with suppression of NF-κB/NLRP3-associated inflammatory signalling and preservation of neurotrophic and synaptic protein profiles.

Implementation Status of Infection Prevention and Control and Healthcare-Associated Infection Surveillance in Zambian Public Hospitals: a WHO IPCAF Tool Assessment
(Cambridge University Press, 2026-08-11) Kamboyi K Harvey , Mudenda Steward
Background: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) remain a major global public health challenge, with a disproportionately higher burden in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including Zambia, where infection prevention and control (IPC) systems face resource and capacity constraints. Effective IPC programs are essential for reducing HAIs, limiting the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and improving patient safety. This study assessed the implementation status of IPC programs in Zambian hospitals.

Applications of Metric Spaces in Computational Complexity Theory
(International Journal of Scientific and Research Publications, 2023) Mwamba Nictor , Kafunda Tuesday
Computational complexity theory heavily relies on b-dislocatedmetric spaces, quasi-metric spaces, and partialmetric spaces for structuring algorithms and evaluating their efficiency. These mathematical frameworks contribute to performance evaluation, ensuring effective problem classification and optimization techniques. This paper investigates how these metric spaces contribute to Computational complexity theoretical aspests such as algorithm efficiency, complexity analysis and other applications. For example, we show that the solution to the divide and conquer recurrence equation is unique regardless of the size of of a nutural number used to split the problem and the complexity distance function can be used to provide asymptotic upper bound of the divide and conquer recurrence. In addition,we use b-relaxed triangle inequality of b-dislocated metric to measure similarity between documents, videos and pictures.
